India Venster is similar to Platteklip Gorge albeit not as steep. It demands not only a moderate to good level of fitness but also a good head for heights and being comfortable rock scrambling.
The risk of outdoors activities, where social distancing is enforced, has been deemed by the WHO as being significantly less than indoor activities. Nonetheless, we place the highest value on our guests’ safety at all times. We walk in small, intimate groups, ensure safe walking distances and promote the use of hand sanitiser and the wearing of masks where necessary.
What To Expect
Why Book a India Venster Hike?
India Venster is for the more adventurous, brave at heart souls. Experienced hikers with a taste for adventure will take to this route well!
The hike begins at the lower cable car station with a steep 30-minute ascent before easing into a winding single track over small boulders.
India Venster hikers soon reach the famous “Window” (Venster in Afrikaans), a prime photo spot with a massive boulder overhead. Two-thirds up, you’ll encounter the “staples & chains,” climbing aids for navigating some steep rock faces—not true climbing, but requiring a steady head for heights.
The trail then opens to stunning views of the 12 Apostles and Camps Bay, leading to a relatively short, flat walk to the Table Mountain summit. After a break at a hidden spot to soak in the views, you’ll descend via the cable car, having conquered one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
