About Path and Peak Adventures - Nicholas Rocke
Path and Peak Adventures Founder

Meet Our Founder, Nick Rocke

Our focus is to provide a hiking experience in a fun and safe way.

Path and Peak Adventures was started in Cape Town by Nicholas Rocke in the spring of 2017. Nick is a South African born nature-lover and has enjoyed spending the last 4 years providing beautiful, authentic and memorable experiences on Table Mountain for tourists from around the world.

Originally from Durban in Kwazulu-Natal, Nick spent his teens and adolescent years exploring the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park, an iconic world heritage site, where he got his first taste of nature. Nick studied at Rhodes University and graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism.

Whilst there, he was also the University’s Mountain Club Hiking Co-ordinator in 2012 which saw him organizing many multi-day hikes around the Eastern Cape for avid student hikers. It was here that the hiking bug really bit.

Nick went on to complete many of South Africa’s famous hiking trails in the years to come such as the Giants Cup Trail in the Drakensberg, the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma trails in the Western Cape, the Amatola Hiking Trail in the Eastern Cape and even a 156km trail in Scotland known as the West Highland Way!

His passion is forest bathing and is inspired by quiet, mindful walks in Table Mountains forests. He is a qualified and registered mountain guide in South Africa and is the current managing director of Path and Peak Adventures.

Whilst Nick doesn’t get to guide as much as he did in the early days, he still enjoys overseeing operations, chatting with guests and ensuring Path and Peak Adventure hikers are booked on the right hike for them with the most suitable guide.

Furthermore, he is also First Aid certified and a dedicated, hard-working and reliable professional.

Why Hire a Guide?

Table Mountain can be a dangerous place. The weather can change in an instant and hikers get lost and worse all the time. There are a multitude of criss-crossing paths, many of which lead to sheer cliffs that are dangerous for the inexperienced hiker.

All of our guides are qualified adventure guides specializing in Mountain Guiding with valid and certified First Aid qualifications. Moreover, all have a passion for the mountains and act with professionalism, dedication and respect at all times.

We’ll make sure you stay on the right path and experience the mountain in a fun yet safe way.

Why Path & Peak Adventures?

Let Our Values Do The Talking

We care about our clients interests and passions deeply.

Respect for our natural environment is paramount.

We adhere to the highest standards of excellence.

A sense of adventure is key! We like to socialise and get to know one another.

We prioritise safety to the fullest.

Finding solitude and quiet amongst the laughs is important.

We like to socialise and get to know one another.

Our guides are not just there to show you the way, they are there to enhance your experience on many different levels and share information about the area and the local flora and fauna.

With Path and Peak Adventures your hiking experience on Table Mountain will differ from other tour providers in a few ways.

Sure, we love to dive deep into some of the more colourful and interesting anecdotes that the mountains epic history has to offer. Our professional and experienced mountain guides are also serious nature lovers themselves.

They’ll be sure to fill you in on some rather surprising facts when it comes to the flora and fauna which abounds in Cape Town and, in particular, the Kirstenbosch Gardens and Table Mountain. We also pride ourselves on our customer service; whether that be timely, informative email correspondence or the holistic nature of our tours that start and end at your hotel door.

Our team are a group of 20 & 30 somethings who work hard at providing a culturally rich yet entertaining experience. We welcome guests of all ages, from children right through to veteran hikers.

We also like to have fun. This isn’t a serious slog up the mountain, it’s a social event with laughs and jokes along the way where we like to get to know our guests personally.

Guiding people up the mountain is our full time job and passion, it’s our office – what we know and what we love.

Our tours are about solitude, peace and quiet and we invite guests to mindfully immerse themselves within Cape Town’s nature – even on Lions Head!

Many of us have lost the simple pleasure of walking in a forest only to completely lose oneself; thoughts subsiding, worries floating away, if only for a few hours.

And it’s this mindful approach to walking in Africa’s nature that first enticed owner Nick Rocke to start Path and Peak, to rekindle in others a deep love for nature, and it’s this approach that keeps guests coming back to us year on year.

We also place a big emphasis on photography and capturing beautiful and authentic moments on camera for you to cherish back home, and what more beautiful a place in the world than on Table Mountain in the Mother City.

We can’t wait for you to join us for a walk ‘on the hill’ soon.
